Biocontrol agent (insects) collection and distribution is a main focus during field season. Currently, in Montana we have collection sites for and regularly collect yellow toadflax, Dalmatian toadflax, leafy spurge, and spotted knapweed agents. Land management agencies and organizations are encouraged to attend collection days and distribute the insects they collect to the private land managers in the geographical areas they work within.
If you are a private land manager and would like to obtain biocontrol agents, your first step should be to reach out to your local county weed coordinator, extension agent, and/or conservation district. Additionally, you can purchase biocontrol agents from for-profit distributors and/or youth programs. Click here to view the distributor list.
First 10-Year Stats
In the first 10 years, MTBCP spent 389 days collecting biocontrol agents, which resulted in over 13.5 million agents distributed across Montana and to partner states. These insects have a market value of over $3.5 million. These graphics give the year-by-year stats.
